Henry Whitehorn wants to be Caddo’s sheriff

CADDO PARISH, La. (KSLA) — Former Shreveport Police Chief Henry Lee Whitehorn Sr. plans to run for Caddo Parish sheriff this fall.

Henry Whitehorn is planning on formally launching his campaign for Caddo Parish Sheriff at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, at Orlandeaux’s Cafe.

Whitehorn’s main focus is on public safety in Caddo Parish.

He has a long history of experience with law enforcement with nearly a decade of experience. The retired U.S. marshal previously served as superintendent of Louisiana State Police and, later during Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins’ administration, worked on the local level as the city’s chief administrative officer. During his time working as Shreveport’s chief of police violent crimes and property crimes were reduced to its lowest level in more than 30 years.

“Throughout my career, I have demonstrated ethical decision-making, with a commitment to integrity and professional excellence that has been an asset to leading people,” said Henry Whitehorn. “I have established and sustained relationships at all levels of the government, community, and corporate spheres that will position the Sheriff’s Department for continued growth and opportunities.”

Whitehorn also played executive roles in leading the state and local public safety responses during both hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The Shreveport native served in the U.S. Air Force and graduated with a bachelor of arts in criminal justice from Louisiana State University Shreveport, and a master in science in criminal justice from Grambling State University. He also has completed numerous law enforcement schools, including the FBI National Academy, and the FBI National Executive Institution.

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator, who has held the job for more than two decades, already has announced his candidacy for re-election.
