Shelby Co. deputy killed in car wreck
SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY, Texas (KSLA) - A deputy with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office lost his life Tuesday morning (Aug. 29) in a car wreck.
The sheriff’s office says it happened at the intersection of Highways 147 and 103 in San Augustine County. The crash involved two vehicles.
Preliminary details show around 7:30 a.m., a 2015 Peterbilt semi was headed west on Highway 103 as the deputy’s unit was headed north on Highway 147. The Texas Department of Public Safety says the deputy failed to yield to the semi and collided with the trailer portion of the truck. The driver of the semi was not injured.
Deputy Matthew Pierson was killed in the crash.
A memorial has been set up at the sheriff’s office with one of the units so the public can leave condolences if they wish.
The sheriff’s office asks for the public’s prayers for the deputy’s family and coworkers.
