BRAVE THE SHAVE: LSU Health students, faculty shave heads for childhood cancer research

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - Dozens of students from LSU Health Shreveport are preparing to “brave the shave” on Thursday, March 17 to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer research.

Shave Day begins at noon and lasts until 4 p.m.

Each year, hundreds of people pack LSU Health’s BRI atrium as participants have their heads shaved to benefit the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

This year, organizers hope to raise at least $70,000; they’ve already collected well over half their goal.

On Wednesday, Smallcakes, located at 1370 E. 70th St., Suite 400, in Shreveport, is hosting a profit share benefitting Geaux Bald. Mention “Geaux Bald” at checkout so a portion of the proceeds is directed at St. Baldrick’s.

Sarah Peytavin, president of Geaux Bald, and Aidyn Dupuy, vice president, are passionate about this effort to make a difference.

“It’s a cause that everyone is willing to come together for. ... It’s just so easy to get behind,” Peytavin explained. “Everyone wants to save these kids, from our students to local businesses that have gone above and beyond at every turn. It’s just been a great sense of community.”

For Dupuy, an aspiring pediatrician, Geaux Bald is an opportunity to help make a positive change for patients she hopes to one day care for.

“My passion lies with families who have kids. And just imagining the struggle and the fight these families go through, I couldn’t help but lend a hand,” Dupuy added.
