(KSLA) - What is a ‘First Alert Weather Day’?

It's our way of letting you know that the weather is about to take a turn for the worse and the KSLA First Alert Weather Team will provide you the necessary forecast information so you can be prepared.

You can expect to see comprehensive coverage and frequent updates about the weather situation on our newscasts, online at KSLA.com, on our mobile news and weather apps, and on social media. That is Coverage You Can Count On!

Our First Alert Weather Day process begins as soon as we see the potential for impactful weather on a particular day. We'll highlight that day with a red 'alert' on our 7 and 12 day forecasts.

As we get closer to the day in question and our confidence increases that dangerous weather conditions are going to develop that could threat your personal safety or property, the KSLA First Alert Weather Team will issue a 'First Alert Weather Day'.

Damaging wind gusts, large hail, and tornadoes are often our biggest concerns. Winter weather, such as snow and ice, is infrequent, but can cause major problems across the Ark-La-Tex when it does happen. And don't forget extreme heat or cold. When it gets dangerously cold enough for frostbite or frozen pipes, or hot enough that heat exhaustion or heat stroke are a real concern, we'll declare a 'First Alert Weather Day'.
